SLR are seeking a high calibre individual to lead and grow a Transport Planning team in Scotland.

SLR already has a strong and vibrant presence in Scotland across environmental and engineering, with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, also recently adding to the Transport Planning team there. This has now been bolstered by the merger with Optimised Environments (OPEN) who provide core disciplines of master planning, landscape architecture and planning, and urban design, including from their Edinburgh office.

Responsibilities:

We will look to you to lead and grow a transport planning capability in Scotland working as part of our North Leadership team, which extends from the Midlands to Scotland. This team consists of Directors and Associate Directors and as part of this team you will be responsible for developing strategies to grow our North region with your focus on Scotland. You will be given autonomy to fulfil this role whilst benefiting from extensive support from the Vectos/SLR senior team, with the opportunity to work anywhere in the UK based on client wishes.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • To generate new business from an existing and future client base.
  • To develop and manage client relationships to secure and deliver project work.
  • To recruit and develop a transport planning team in Scotland.
  • To provide expert transport planning advice to clients to fulfil their land use development objectives.
  • To manage and deliver complex development projects, ranging from feasibility studies, promotion of development, including through the local plan process, supporting planning applications and negotiation to successful resolution, dealing with appeals and public inquiry as necessary.
  • To negotiate fee proposals and manage the financial aspect of projects.
  • To mentor and support the career development of colleagues within your team.
  • To be at the forefront of continued professional development on technical, policy and legal matters related to planning and transport.
  • To seek to “add value” to all projects.
