Description:

Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Disability Case Manager to join our team in the Life & Disability Services Department. This position offers the flexibility to be in-office or participate in hybrid options in our Saskatoon or Regina office.

JOB FUNCTION

Under the direct supervision of the Team Lead, Life & Disability Services, and reporting directly to the Manager, Life & Disability Services, the Disability Case Manager is responsible for the assessment of disability claims consistent with company policies and goals. They will review medical information, job responsibilities, conduct phone interviews, develop case management strategies, and return to work plans to support the approval and ongoing management of claims. The successful candidate will work with the member, employer, and providers to facilitate early recovery and return to productive employment to the fullest extent possible while ensuring compliance with human rights legislation and the delivery of superior customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Completion of a post-secondary Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or certificate program in a related field or a minimum of one to three years experience in a similar role. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, and willingness to participate in industry courses/training
  • Experience in the delivery of health or business-related services, knowledge of disability case management, and/or group benefits would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge and interest in current and emerging disability practices and standards
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to CPP, Workers Compensation, and other publicly sponsored worker assistance programs would be considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to easily learn new software programs
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion to excel in the delivery of superior customer service
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle shifting priorities, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, peers and co-workers, and work effectively in a team environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Saskatchewan
  • Flexibility to operate outside of core working hours
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a background check
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for disability claim eligibility decisions and payment approvals in accordance with contractual provisions
  • Initiates and performs the analysis, investigation and assessment of disability claims, documenting case management plans and goals, determines appropriate action and eligibility for benefits
  • Conduct and document complete and thorough disability assessments through phone interviews with both the claimant and employer, careful review of medical information, analysis of job description information, and discussions with Medical Consultants
  • Develops, documents, and executes pertinent and comprehensive disability management strategies unique to each case file
  • Develops and manages effective return to work strategies with input and support of the claimant, employer, and other key stakeholders
  • Organizes and coordinates claim file workflow, facilitating the efficient and effective processing of claims and information
  • Effectively and confidently communicates claim decisions in writing and by telephone to all stakeholders, while considering how certain outcomes may affect all parties involved
  • Actively contributes to the development and execution of strategic and operational disability management objectives at both the departmental and corporate levels
  • Prioritizes and maintains workload to meet deadlines, company objectives, and department standards
  • Acts as a key resource and liaison with other departments and organizations
  • Ensures all claimant information and records are kept confidential and handled in compliance with applicable health records legislation
  • Initiates and develops strong customer relations with clients, plan administrators, and brokers
  • Other related tasks and duties as assigned
