Description:
QinetiQ are now accepting applications for this key technical role within our Australia Sector. Based in Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney and reporting to our Head of Technical Excellence, the Discipline Lead – Explosive Ordnance will provide specialist support and assurance to all Explosive Ordnance (EO) related activities, including trials undertaken by Business Units within the Australia Sector, supporting the delivery of safe and regulatory compliant outcomes which meet customer needs and attract customer business.
As Discipline - Lead Explosive Ordnance you will be accountable for:
Providing technical leadership and assurance within the Explosive Ordnance domain
Setting the technical standards and practice for Explosive Ordnance activities across the sector in compliance with applicable regulation and/or Group policy
Working with the Head of Technical Excellence and Head of Safety Excellence to ensure business unit processes enable achievement of business requirements in a safe, compliant, effective and efficient manner including harmonisation of process across business units where applicable
Providing high level support and advice to Accountable Managers, Program and senior engineering/technical staff
Leading and upholding the highest standards and technical practice
Working with the broader leadership team and functions to continuously improve safety outcomes and safety culture
Developing close relationships with customers, stakeholders and relevant regulators to support resolution of technical matters and promote understanding and acknowledge of QinetiQ’s technical assurance and safety culture.
Providing technical supervision and mentoring to staff at all levels of experience and expertise within the EO domain
Promoting staff professional growth and skill development through, amongst other things, development and delivery
To be successful in the role of Discipline Lead – Explosive Ordnance you will need to bring with you:
First degree in science or engineering with an additional proven record of significant experience and demonstrated competence in an engineering leadership role
Qualifications and experience sufficient to achieve Chartered Practicing Engineer with Engineers Australia or equivalent
A proven and demonstrable track record of technical credibility in Explosive Ordnance, including performing assurance roles within a formal or regulated management system
A demonstrated understanding of and experience in application of Explosive Ordnance certification principles, processes and standards
An understanding of and experience in Explosive Ordnance operations, processes and standards
A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to principles and elements of a quality engineering and/or safety management system
An understanding of and experience in system safety management and applicable safety regulatory systems
An ability to communicate with and lead both teams of Subject Matter Experts and teams of diverse experience and expertise levels
Excellent communication and diplomacy skills to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas/departments and external customers/agencies
Credibility, integrity and high personal ethical standards that align with QinetiQ values and behaviours
A keen interest in contributing toward the engineering profession through a variety of activities such as writing papers and blogs, delivering professional development and presentations, mentoring others, maintaining membership of a professional organisation
A proactive approach to developing successful customer relationships with advanced interpersonal skills in dealing with customers and opening up new business opportunities
