The Parkland School Division currently has a Regular (12 month) Full-time (1.0 FTE/37.5 hours/week) Division Family Support Coordinator position to be based at the Centre for Education in Stony Plain, Alberta. The successful candidate will be reponsible for providing tiered support to families and students from Early Education to Grade 12 in PSD. This position included collaborating with wrap-around support services with community partners (Sunrise Supports) and family supports.
Function and Purpose of Position
Parkland School Division staff demonstrate the belief that student success is linked to student and family well-being. The Division Family Support Coordinator works as an integral part of the Student Supports and Services team by providing connection and support to identified families who are struggling and are in need of connections to community services. The Division Family Support Coordinator helps families to navigate systems through a supportive solution-focused approach.
Job Duties
Individual Family Supports
Provides timely connection to supports and services for identified families who are struggling and are in need of connections to community supports.
Maintains a referral system and caseload, including assessing, allocating, and reviewing referrals and triaging as appropriate.
Conducts inquiries/collects information to determine the nature and extent of the intervention(s) required for students/families, including needs and risks.
Coordinates and facilitates parent/student meetings, case conferences, and inter-agency consultations as needed.
In partnership with students/families, develops action plans to address the issues identified during the inquiry process.
Provides referrals, support, guidance, and problem solving to parents/guardians of PSD students to address issues related to student and family functioning. Provides parenting skill building, emotional support and feedback to parents/guardians on caseload
Works with schools and families in connecting students to transition supports, for students enrolled in specialized programs who are transitioning to adulthood.
Provides ongoing communication and follow-up with school staff regarding divisional and community support being provided.
Supports families in developing their independence in accessing resources, with the goal of transitioning families off caseload.
Universal Family Supports
Raises awareness and connects schools with community services and resources available to students/families.
Develops and distributes a regular family support newsletter to PSD parents/guardians and staff that shares community information and resources available in the Parkland Tri-Region (i.e., Stronger Together Newsletter).
Coordinates and facilitates a regular learning series for parents/guardians of PSD students on topics related to family functioning (i.e., Strong Families sessions).
Organizes and facilitates workshops and information sessions for school staff, as requested by the Division Principal of Wellness and Community Partnerships.
Collaboration, Communication, and Reporting
Works as part of a collaborative team including various professionals in the community and school division.
Develops and maintains a network of contacts and community agencies/members and resources to support the needs of students/families.
In confidence and with appropriate permission of student/families: obtains, provides, or exchanges information with professionals/agencies to gain access to necessary supports and services.
Liaises with related community support roles (e.g., Community Connectors) to ensure consistency in support and services to students and their families.
Other Responsibilities
Consults with the Division Principal of Wellness and Community Partnerships on any potential external partnerships, in alignment with Division procedures.
Maintains accurate and timely records, and provides reports to the Division Principal of Wellness and Community Partnerships, as requested.
Develops and revises division documents and resources in response to identified needs.
Provides regular updates to the Division Principal of Wellness and Community Partnerships on all areas of responsibility.
Performs other duties, as assigned by the Division Principal of Wellness and Community Partnerships.
Education and Experience
Diploma or Degree in related human/social service field.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Mental Health First Aid certification would be an asset.
Experience
3 to 5 years of related experience.
Experience and knowledge in inter-agency relationships would be an asset
Proven ability to plan, coordinate and implement supports for students and families
Experience in providing professional learning opportunities within the area of family support
Experience collaborating with large teams and being accountable to stakeholders.
Understanding of Tiered Response Models (e.g., Response to Intervention, Collaborative Response) is an asset.
Experience in delivery of the follow supports would be an as asset: social emotional learning, emotional regulation, trauma sensitive practices, growth mindset, student aggression/anger, social skills, adolescent issues, individual and family stressors, family violence,
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
Project Management Experience is an asset.

Work is performed under the direction of the Division Principal - Wellness and Community Partnerships.
Consults with the Division Principal - Wellness and Community Partnerships regarding partnerships, initiatives, funding, and communication decisions.
Working Conditions
Work is located at the division office, in the community, and in schools.
Works on a 12 month calendar.
This position requires local travel, including the use of a personal vehicle and valid Alberta Driver’s License; mileage will be reimbursed.
