About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to provide high level research and support to the Deputy Commissioner and undertake high level executive support activities for the Office of the Deputy Commissioner to enable the successful delivery of strategic and business objectives.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Identify and research issues impacting on the Office of the Deputy Commissioner responsibilities and initiate work priorities and timely action which support the delivery of business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels and working relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and guidance on key issues to senior managers and the executive support team across the Division as required.
  • Prepare correspondence, briefing notes, reports and submissions as required to support the delivery of services across the Division.
  • Manage business improvement initiatives to ensure systems, procedures and processes meet best practice expectations through internal audits and compliance activities.
  • Coordinate and undertake project activities for the Deputy Commissioner on a diverse range of issues relating to Divisional priorities.
  • Represent and promote the interests of the Division at internal and external meetings and forums and negotiate agreed outcomes as required.
