Description:
INTRODUCTION
The Office of Security Management within the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) provides State agencies with a common statewide strategy for secure, effective, and technically sound use of the State’s information technology resources. This Office is responsible for the establishment of Security Policies, Security Guidance, Security Awareness, and management of the Statewide Security Operations Center (SOC), which provides detection, cyber threat, and incident response capabilities; and is a source of IT security information for State agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering, business administration or other related field.
Experience: Five years working in an information technology area such as, firewall administration, system engineering, desktop/server administration, network engineering and/or information security. Two of the five years must have been in a supervisory role.
Three of the five required years of experience needs to have been working with next-gen firewalls such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, and other equivalent vendor firewall experience.
Note: Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for the degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached. Employees may be furnished with a cell phone.
Applicants for this classification may handle sensitive data which may require a full scope background investigation prior to appointment. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the applicant.
Employees may occasionally be required to travel to field locations and must have access to an automobile in the event a state vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.
Responsibilities:
The Firewall Manager is a leadership role responsible for the overall health and operation of the managed firewall platform, maturing the managed firewall service, leading the firewall team, and being a key contributor to the technical vision of the service. The Firewall Manager is responsible for executing the strategic direction of the Director of Cybersecurity Operations.
The chosen candidate for this position must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and the ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
This is a Management Service position which serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority
Lead and manage the firewall team responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Managed Firewall service and ensure that work quality, procedures, processes, and production statistics align with leadership strategies and goals.
Develop metrics to ensure the service and systems are operating as designed, identify patterns of alerts and support analysis to drive improvements and efficiencies.
Document and maintain the Managed Firewall service architecture, processes, and procedures.
Provide regular status updates and briefings to senior leadership.
