Ara Whiwhi Mahi | The Opportunity
Reporting to the Organisational Resilience Lead, the Principal Advisor (Domain Principal) provides thought leadership and strategic direction on Health, Safety and Wellbeing across Inland Revenue, taking the lead for mentally healthy work and managing psychosocial risk. They are also responsible for effectively influencing multiple stakeholders at both a strategic and operational level, applying best practice guidance to ensure we have safe systems of work in place.
In this role you will be a key driver of our commitment to providing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and secure working environment, working with a wide range of internal stakeholders to provide knowledge and help them to integrate health and safety best practice into day-to-day work activities.
Working across diverse pieces of work, you will gain exposure to a wide range of environments, allowing you to test yourself and influence the business by providing accurate information and advice. You will help develop and implement effective control and mitigation measures so that our people can go home safe and healthy every day.

A critical factor for success is your approach to working with others - engagement with the business and building effective workplace relationships is essential. We are looking for an individual who is inquisitive and receptive to new ideas when it comes to health, safety, and wellbeing.

You will be passionate about being a coach as opposed to an enforcer and comfortable in a dynamic environment. We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues to equip them with the right safety and wellbeing skills and knowledge
  • Working across all levels of the organisation, including the Executive Leadership Team, and connecting with teams to work alongside them as a trusted advisor with the ability to influence at the right time across the right issues
  • Using continual improvement to build on existing systems and enabling the organisation to mature it’s approach to managing health, safety, and wellbeing risks, including continuous improvement
  • Leading the delivery of strategic projects that support the direction we are looking to go in, and the changes we are looking to make
  • Leveraging your Health and Safety knowledge to monitor and develop the Health and Safety Reporting Tool.

Knowledge or use of the Noggin Health and Safety Reporting System is desirable, as is participation in the Government Health and Safety Lead Mentally Healthy Work Development Programme.
