JOB DESCRIPTION

The Annual Giving and Membership team within the Department of Donor Engagement in University Advancement at the University of Missouri seeks a Donor Experience Officer (DXO). This role involves front-line fundraising, where the DXO builds relationships with Mizzou donors, inspires support for the university, and helps individuals connect their passions with philanthropy at Mizzou.
The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and
enthusiasm for engaging with Mizzou’s alumni, parents, friends, faculty, and staff.
Reporting to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, this role will develop and cultivate relationships with an assigned portfolio of Mizzou supporters with an established history of giving to various areas across campus. Their primary focus will be on retention, upgrades, and growth, as the DXO team is critical in establishing a sustainable giving pipeline for future major gifts. Additionally, this position offers the possibility of a hybrid in-person/remote working arrangement after the DXO completes the onboarding process.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • DXOs will manage an assigned portfolio of donors with clear metrics and goals for outreach, donor meetings, dollars raised, donor count, and pipeline growth.
  • Leverage various technology tools including but not limited to e-mail, personalized videos, video conferencing, social media, text messaging, and phone calls to build rapport, steward, and solicit their portfolio of donors in a personalized and donor-centric manner.
  • Express gratitude and ask for philanthropic support for gifts up to $50,000 and develop personalized strategies for increasing donor retention year over year.
  • Use established messaging and touchpoint cadences to connect with donors.
  • Become an expert in giving opportunities across Mizzou, including admissions, colleges, continuing education, extension, and more, to help connect and match supporters to the areas of need that best fit their interests.
  • Identify donors interested in making major and planned gifts and connect them with major gift officers or subject matter experts as appropriate.
  • Participate in annual giving and Mizzou Alumni Association membership outreach campaigns outside their portfolio to support wider university Advancement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience in higher education fundraising, communications, sales, or another related field
Understanding of the development process and donor cycle
Experience with donor database or customer relationship management software.
