POSITION OVERVIEW
Kiewit has an immediate opening for a Mid-Level Civil Engineer (Drainage) in our growing offices in Burnaby, BC. The Mid-Level Drainage Engineer will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis and design in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Civil Engineering
- 7+ years post-graduate experience
- Design experience or Design-Build project experience preferred
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization and support project efforts
- The candidate will lead plan production, specifications, estimate and drainage design development and will be responsible / in charge of engineering work and will be the Engineer of Record for final design projects
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
- This position requires travel to project offices and work sites. Ability to travel 25% of the time.

Base Compensation: $130,000 - $140,000

Responsibilities:
- Conduct specific studies in hydraulics and urban hydrology according to the latest practices in stormwater management, highway and railroad drainage.
- Work on projects in an alternative mode allowing for innovation and development of constructible concepts while collaborating with construction teams and estimators.
Hydrology & Hydraulics
- Single-event and continuous rainfall modeling
- Watershed analysis, hydrograph and peak discharge development and routing
- Pavement drainage, culverts sizing, storm systems sizing, pump stations design (atout), revetment design, and drainage design
- Understanding of the various standard such as TAC Drainage Manuel, MELCC Drainage Manuel and MTMDET Drainage Manuel.
- Stormwater quantity / quality calculations, according to local Environmental Ministry (such as MELCC) compliance and erosion control requirements
- Software experience includes: PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, Arc-GIS, Q-GIS or equivalent
Drainage Design
- Development of drainage plans, profiles, specifications and estimates for transportation and other water resources projects. This includes developing terrain and other design components via models such as Inroads, Arc-GIS and other pre and post processing software packages.
- Design of the temporary drainage staging during construction at the design phase which includes modification to the permanent design and/or temporary network, pumping, etc.
- Software experience includes: Micro Station, AutoCAD, Arc-GIS, Geopak, Civil 3D and Inroads or similar 3D stormwater modeling preferred.
Water quality
- Development of erosion and sediment control devices, such as treatment units for sediments and oils, bio-swales and other infiltration devices to meet sedimentation requirements in accordance with local Environmental Ministry.
- Integrate and recommend the design criteria to achieve resilient structures in response to climate changes
