We’re hiring Driller Helpers (all experience levels)!
CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award winning, full service consulting engineering firm with (12) locations across OH, IN, WV, and KY with a rich history over our (97) years in business. We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.
We are looking for all levels of Driller Helpers who will play a key role in the operation of our drilling rigs for exploration test borings/drilling for new developments, bridge replacements, and determining foundation design (our projects are NOT in the oil/gas industry). Ongoing mentoring and training will be provided, based on your experience level, with opportunities for increasing responsibility if that is your career trajectory and interest.

Highlights:

  • Using their personal vehicle, the Driller Helper will meet the Driller at a determined location. From there, the Drilling Team will use company vehicles to travel to the project site.
  • Extensive travel is to be expected – hotel accommodations are handled by the company.
  • The typical schedule is Monday-Friday – day shift primarily. If bad weather affects the timeline, some Saturdays may be needed. Night time borings may occur, given the nature of the project (busy road), but are rare.
  • Travel per diem of $50/day for travel/overnight projects

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Crew Chief in solid stem and hollow stem auger drilling techniques.
  • Assist with move, set up and operation of drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for geotechnical exploration test borings.
  • Works independently on broad projects under direction of a Driller or Project Engineer.
  • Expedites field supplies.
  • Communicates job site conditions with Engineering Staff.
  • Assures that all drilling functions, including quality control, quality assurance and verification are performed in accordance with the standard drilling methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
  • Performs yard duties at direction of the Supervisor.
  • Assists in measuring test boring locations.
  • Loads and unloads trucks.
  • Locates borings as needed.
  • Connects and disconnects the lower parts of the drill pipe when it is being lowered into and raised from the hole.
  • Collects split spoon samples to be analyzed.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Participates in recovery of Rock Coring.
  • Helps move drilling rigs and equipment from site to site and sets up.
  • Digs and cleans mud pits and drains.
  • Assists with well development and pumping tests.
  • Operates equipment such as pumps for air, water and mud, and equipment and tools used to correct problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions.
  • Carries out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning.
  • Completes drilling logs and writes daily report logs as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of highway construction specifications a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of Drilling a plus, but not required – ongoing training for all experience levels will be provided.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Services for OH, IN, PA, WV is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Skill in writing reports, maintenance repairs, and drilling.
  • Skill in measuring and testing.
  • Must be reliable, on-time, and a team player.
  • Ability to clean and learn to maintain a variety of equipment.
  • Ability to monitor and enforce quality control standards and specifications;
  • Must be safety-oriented.
  • Ability to read blueprints is a plus.
  • Ability to be quality-minded and client-focused.
  • Ability to move equipment and perform yard duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or related experience required.
  • Preferred Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or certification in related field.
  • 1-3+ years experience in Civil/Geotechnical Field Services.
