ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently looking for a Drinking Water Safety Planning Scientist to join our growing Regulatory Science department at our Cardiff Office.
Reporting into the Regulatory Science Manager the role holder will provide scientific, technical, and administrative assistance within the Regulatory Science team. This team are responsible for providing the regulatory and scientific support necessary for the business to hold an Ofwat license to supply clean water to customers. This includes servicing the various company systems which help provide key regulatory information to internal and external stakeholders such as the Drinking Water Inspectorate, The Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, and Defra

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:
UK Water Industry experience in several of the following areas:
- Have previous water industry experience in a similar role.
- Assisting with the management and preparation of Regulation 28 Drinking Water Safety Plans.
- Submission of risk assessment reports (RARs).
- Using performance and analytical data to inform and where necessary update the companies RARs.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes.
- Providing input and help to update company policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
- Ad hoc investigations into regulatory failures and preparation of DWI exceedance reports.
- Working knowledge of current and future water quality regulations.
QUALIFICATION:
A degree in an Engineering or Scientific subject.
Membership of a recognised professional body for example CIWEM or Institute of Water desirable
Responsibilities:
The DWSP Scientist role is within the Regulatory Science Team of the Water Asset Management department. The role holder will report to the Regulatory Science Manager and will be primarily responsible for tasks associated with all aspects related to the management, preparation, and submission of the companies Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP’s).
Tasks including but not limited to:
- Champion drinking water safety planning within the business.
- Drive the development and evolution of drinking water safety planning for the business.
- Development and submission of Regulatory 28 Risk assessment reports (RARs).
- Helping to ensure the DWSP policy and procedures and associated documentation are up to date and accessible.
- Liaison with internal stakeholders such as the Asset Adoption Team, Customer Services, Field Services and Networks, and external stakeholders such as Industry Forums, Drinking Water Inspectorate, Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Health Protection Teams.
- Preparation of zonal water quality statistics and network performance data.
- Data entry and assisting with the management of Water Quality Management Systems.
- Assistance with preparation of routine monthly and annual regulatory submissions to DWI and Defra.
- Ad hoc investigations into regulatory failures and preparation of DWI exceedance reports.
- Provide input and help update company policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
- To keep abreast of current and future water quality regulations.
- Help with preparation of Water Resource and Drought Plans.
- Represent Company at external meetings.
