Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Change management leadership
- Consistently achieve established key performance indicators for productivity and accuracy
- Create a culture of continuous improvement.
- Develop and control applicable procedures.
- Develop and implement a management system for your team within the organisation and initiate appropriate interventions to secure compliance in terms of service delivery, quality, and innovation.
- Develop and maintain an excellent relationship with the customer and its representatives.
- Ensure effective implementation of projects and related activities within the applicable operational area.
- Ensure effective implementation of succession planning.
- Ensure timeous and accurate reporting of KPI’s and ensure the department remain within the required targets.
- Maintain contact with Planner, CSO, Expeditors and have the ability to make decisions in line with Customer expectations.
- Maintain good communication channels with haulers and set standard for haulers in line with Company specifications.
- Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to meet contractual terms and DHL expectations.
- Management of the scheduling and planning of the transport operation, ensuring vehicle utilization is maximized and services levels met.
- Oversee your team and ensure implementation of the organisations and customers goals and policies.

- Team building and development through succession planning.
- Assist in the interview and selection process for your department, together with Human Resources
- Budget/Cost Management
- Ensure effective communication processes are established and maintained for both external/internal customers.
- Equip and avail yourself as a disciplinary chairperson, to be utilised as required by Human Resources
- Vendor relationship Management
- Ensure accountability for all equipment and facilities located within your department.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s rules and regulations as documented in the company’s disciplinary policy.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and ensure effective application of occupational health and safety standards throughout the operations areas.
- Maintain and adhere to standard operation meeting agendas and frequencies.
- To work within operating areas as determined by management and the needs of the business.
- When carrying out duties, follow standard operating procedures and safe working practices.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES:
- Matric
- Relevant Road Freight and or Logistical Degree or Diploma
- CSCM Certified
- Operations Essentials Certified
- Leadership Essentials Certified
- Broad experience in a leadership role in Logistics Operational Management, People Management or Continuous Improvement in Logistics environment is essential.
- Experience with working through the different organisation layers within the organisation is essential (from shopfloor to Senior Management Team level)
- Experience from other divisions is an advantage.
- Experience of Existing Connected Control Tower application used is essential.
- Experience with change management is essential.
- Experience in Performance Management is essential.
- Experience with Road Freight Management is highly desirable.
- Influencing and negotiation skills are essential (also through dotted-line organization structures)
- Experience with managing people and working in matrix organizations is desirable.
- Experience in a Operational and Logistical environment is an advantage
Proven track record of utilizing global best practices and sharing local best practices with the Regional and/or Global communities
Responsibilities:
The Control Tower Operations Lead is a strategic role for developing existing operations. The role holder manages and incubates strategic Operational direction and forward vision that develops and grows the performance of our existing operations by ensuring and further assisting to develop current tools, applications, and systems in use. The goal is to further stabilize, develop and grow CCT performance in a consistent way through the standardized methods and improvements. To reach this goal the Control Tower Operations Lead works hand-in-hand with the CCT Operational Teams and the supporting Business Units and Departments.
