JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Position Summary:
The DTO Intelligent Automation Sr Staff Engineer Automation is responsible for leading and supporting the design, development, optimization, and scale-up of Smart Automation projects from a technology, supplier, and the associated manufacturing processes. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing external integrators, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Director DTO Intelligent Automation, the DTO staff Engineer Intelligent Automation is part the Digital Technology Operations organization focused on the technical aspects of developing Intelligent Automation utilizing tools like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, robotic process automation (RPA), Vision systems, Autonomous Mobile Robots, predictive and adaptive models, and more to allow our Manufacturing sites to adapt quickly, discover and meet key strategic metrics.
This position is responsible for working cross functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Business Unit leaders to identify process improvements, identify appropriate technology and solution providers in support of implementation plans. The person in this role will support and at times lead the investigation for Intelligent Automation opportunities and strategic planning including, assessment against needs of the organization, technical hurdles, input into playbooks, Project Plans, Financial Analyses & Charters, and provides technical expertise and support to local teams during Project implementation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Computer engineering/ Software Systems
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in manufacturing engineering, Automation design and development, technology transfer, assessment of product manufacturability, industrial engineering and project engineering preferably in a regulated industry (Medical Device, Pharma, etc) or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Intelligent Automation solutions and digital Transformations including machine learning, Vision and controls engineering, AMR’s, Cobots/Robotics, , AI, GenAI, and Data analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of process optimization techniques, lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies and statistical analysis.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling the ability to influence decisions based on sound rationale.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel: 25% to 30% of the time

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Computer engineering/ Software Systems
  • Project Management Training and/or Certification
  • Industry 4.0 Training and/or Certification.
  • Proficient in process analysis, process modelling and simulation software, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with process improvement tools and methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Knowledge of automation and control systems, such as SCADA and PLC.
