Responsibilities:

Are you a recent graduate who is looking for an opportunity to put your academic environmental data work into practice? Have you gained some experience using GIS but want to broaden your experience to include ecology survey preparation, health and safety and work for a respected consultancy in this sector? Woodrow, part of the APEM Group, leads on terrestrial ecology for the APEM Group in Ireland. Woodrow is based in Ballisodare, Co. Sligo, and undertakes terrestrial surveys across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, across the full range of ecological disciplines, to inform planning requirements for a wide variety of developments including renewable energy, quarries, road schemes and other infrastructure projects, as well as for smaller developments and community/biodiversity projects.
In this crucial, multifaceted role, you’ll be assisting data input and coordination of botanical work, Health and Safety and the Integrated Management System (Quality and Environment). You’ll be working on survey preparation, carrying out data requests, compiling results for reporting and getting involved in the writing of technical reports on survey findings. There is also the opportunity to be able to get out in the field and assist with ecological survey such as habitat, bat, bird and aquatic surveys.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Ability to manage and organise files in both digital and paper formats.
  • Accurately enter data into corresponding fields within various software programs.
  • Identify and correct data entry errors using appropriate quality control methods.
  • Aptitude for quickly assimilating new computer programmes, applications or technologies into systems of work. Good literacy and computer skills (use of Word, Excel, Microsoft Office etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software. Experience in using ArcGIS or QGIS to produce maps and analyse data.
  • Background or degree in ecological or environmental sciences, or related subject.
