QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A valid Alberta Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of successful experience as a school or system principal or an equivalent combination of school principal experience and system administrative experience.
  • Proven leadership and implementation of district strategic priorities, including decision-making to achieve positive outcomes amidst multiple objectives and interests.
  • Evidence of leadership in the improvement of student outcomes through intentional instructional, visionary and relational leadership that addresses the contextual needs of the school and/or organization.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to public education and knowledge of the issues facing today’s educational system.
  • Collaborative, values-based decision-making.
  • Exemplary leadership for learning and ability to lead leaders.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive instructional practices.

  • Leading with purpose and with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Collaborate effectively in order to support a growth mindset, achievement, well-being and equity for all students.
  • Fulfill the expectations in our vision for success for each student aligned with the Education Plan.
  • Provide effective leadership and service to your K – 12 group of schools to support the development, implementation and monitoring of School Development Plans.
  • Visit schools regularly to work with principals and their teams to leverage the work of the school development plan, in order to support school improvement.
  • Provide coaching for principals and assistant principals by asking effective questions leading to changes in instructional and leadership practices.
  • Engage effectively with administrator and school learning teams and public stakeholders.
  • Utilize and analyze data and use effective processes to facilitate the learning in their learning teams leading to improved student outcomes for all.
  • Build positive relationships with principals, assistant principals, parents, students, staff and communities.
  • Respond to parent and staff concerns in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other education directors and the Superintendents’ team to create system coherence and to support effective implementation of system priorities, administrative regulations and policies.
  • Allocate resources based on students needs and support Area teams and System Principals.
  • Utilize effective structures and processes to lead and facilitate professional learning.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet organizational goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

The key priority is to improve student achievement, equity and well-being.
Reporting to a Superintendent, School Improvement, the Education Director provides leadership, direction and support to school principals in a K -12 group of schools in one of the seven Areas. Under the School Support Model, each Education Director provides leadership for approximately 17-20 schools as well as oversee system responsibilities.
The role is focused on improving student achievement and well-being, utilizing data to identify areas for improvement, coaching principals and assistant principals and assisting school teams to develop strategies to improve student success, and reducing inequity amongst all student populations especially for students who self-identify as Indigenous.
As a member of the senior leadership team, this role is accountable for working with school-based leadership, the Superintendents’ Team and service units to provide leadership in school effectiveness, operational support, system change and renewal in the Area as well as the system in general. The role requires a collaborative leader who is committed to the CBE vision for success.
