Description:

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct various types of health and safety assessments, inspections, and audits
  • Skilled at writing EHS reports and developing/updating documents such as policies, procedures, investigation reports, project status reports, ergonomic assessments, registers
  • Strong understanding of Risk Management and Risk Mitigation processes
  • Experience in driving cultural change to support EHS and Risk Management processes
  • Experience in a similar WHS/EHS role
  • Working knowledge of OSH & WHS legislation, Regulations Codes of Practice and Standards (both NSW state level and harmonised/federal level)
  • Demonstrated understanding of AS4801 and/or ISO45001 and/or OHSAS18001
  • Cert IV in Work Health and Safety or above
  • ICAM training highly desirable
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced EHS Advisor to join our Hobart Class Destroyer Combat System Integrator team in our Garden Island, NSW offices. The Environment Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for ensuring legislative, contractual and EHS Management System requirements are met. The EHS Advisor will coordinate the provision of a safe work environment by targeting best practice levels of safety and legislative compliance in an environment of continuous improvement. This is a hands-on position, supported by a National EHS&W Functional team, that requires initiative, excellent coordination skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach to safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve and maintain compliance with relevant WHS/EHS Acts
  • Coordinate and conduct on site EHS Inductions
  • Contribute to and facilitate implementation of EHS policies, plans, procedures and processes, including reporting and records management
  • Support and facilitate the application of the EHS Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC) process
  • Advise, participate and support Internal and External Audit programs and Inspections
  • Respond to EHS issues and undertake investigations following incidents or occurrences to determine likely causes, corrective actions and improvement opportunities and control effectiveness
