The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) - Operations Resource Management Division (ORM), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEES
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 01st September/October 2024)
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
- Final year of studies or University degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science (for OSD) or any related subject
- A first experience in the banking/financial sector will be considered as an asset
- Strong organisational skills with capacity to plan, organise, prioritise and anticipate potential issues.
- Sense of professional responsibility and initiative
- Accuracy, attention to details
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head of Division and senior colleagues, you will actively participate in the Division’s core activities. Depending on the team that you will be assigned to, your main tasks will include:
For Advisory Services (AS):
In the Strategy, Business Relations & Support Division, you will assist with data validation and will be in contact with data recorders to improve data quality. You will also assist with system queries and date aggregation for the purpose of drafting slides for presentations and documents for reports. As such, you will be exposed to data queries and integrity checks as well as data aggregation and interpretation to inform mandate and internal reporting.
As a trainee in the Public & Infrastructure Finance Advisory Division you will work in a team comprising specialists that deliver Infrastructure finance advisory support to public and private promoters undertaking infrastructure projects, with a focus on climate and green assets.
Your tasks will be the following:
- Assistance with the identification and screening of infrastructure projects in line with EIB’s policy objectives by developing an internal and external business network
- Contribution to the scoping, preparation and approval process of advisory proposals for target clients
- Contribution to the provision of advisory support to clients on innovative delivery models, financing, procurement, project risk management and risk allocation, among other aspects relating to complex infrastructure projects
- Participation in the coordination of the delivery of tailor-made, multi-disciplinary advisory support (e.g. technical, financial and/or legal), to specific projects, in cases where this is provided by joint teams of EIB experts and/or external consultants
- Assistance with client communications and the preparation of advisory status reports
- Assistance with the design/scoping and delivery of “project enabling” advisory assignments (e.g. market studies, policy/programming upstream advice) as needed.
- Assist in following trends and developments in selected Infrastructure sectors, fields and market segments to understand evolving advisory needs across EU
For Business Planning & Mandate Management (BPMM):
You will work in the Operational Strategy and Business Planning Division and will be part of a team acting as enabler of EIB business activity with the EU, in particular through the development / formulation, articulation and implementation of the EIB operational strategy – including new product development - in close coordination with Ops transactional teams and other EIB
Directorates. In this context, you will be required to:
- Identify the relevant dimensions and aspects required for the EIB market positioning exercise
- Identify and map the existing strategic resources/knowledge
- Document the process to streamline future updates on the mapping
- Propose useful insights on how to make best use of the existing resources/knowledge along the Operational Strategy definition and implementation process
For Operations Support Department (OSD):
The EIB’s policies are aligned with EU priorities and indicate the most important sub-sectors and areas of focus in operations. They are regularly updated and consulted with the public. OSD ensures that decisions taken in such a policy context allow for business continuity and are adequately implemented. In particular, OSD represents OPS in the revision of policies, facilitates their implementation, provides input into evaluations and complaints as well as the implementation of their recommendations.
As a trainee you will assist OSD in providing input into the preparation/revision of policies and orientation papers and in particular:
- Undertake data processing and analysis
- Prepare slides for information sessions to OPS, draft articles for the OSD newsletter
Contribute to upcoming policy revisions and implementation of recommendations stemming from evaluations
In the Procedures and ICF unit, all activities related to the management of processes, procedures and operational risk environment of OPS and GLO are managed. While the procedures are digitalised, their structure require to be reviewed on a regular basis. You would be key to:
Review the procedures to identify which sections require improvement.
Propose which visual representation and supporting material (e.g. checklist) can substitute the text based on information currently available and implement them
The OSD help desk was recently launched to provide front liners with a dedicated digital access point, streamlining the handling of their requests and simplifying their access to relevant operational information, including a repository of Frequently Asked Questions. The assistance of a trainee is sought to support the Mandate Applications unit by reviewing the structure and the content of information which could be shared via the OSD help desk, specifically related to applications.
