The Information Technology Branch delivers trusted technology and services to the department and portfolio agencies to support to the department’s strategic activities at all levels internally, externally and internationally. The Service Operations team supports our corporate applications throughout their lifecycle.

THE OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE AVAILABLE

We are seeking a Business Application Developer and Platform Manager the successful candidate(s) will be senior member(s) of a small team managing the day to day maintenance, development, sustainment and support of a wide range of business applications and platforms.
You will work closely with other teams within the Department to deliver technological advice and solutions covering the entire portfolio of corporate applications to deliver high quality IT services for the Department.

You will be expected to:

  • Provide technical leadership, providing technical advice to colleagues and Senior Executive
  • Manage demand and prioritising the workloads in consultation with the Director of ICT Operations.
  • Work closely with the department’s IT Security team to ensure that the department is not exposed to unacceptable IT security risk
  • Focus on continuous improvement for the department’s IT systems, procedures and practises.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced IT professional with extensive knowledge and experience across a wide range of enterprise IT systems and technology. A self-starter capable of working with limited oversight who can achieve beneficial outcomes and achieve results.
The successful candidate(s) will have skills and experience, or demonstrate that they can quickly gain experience the following areas:

Highly desirable technical skills in:

  • Developing complex business applications (.Net, React JS, API, Dynamics 365, C#).
  • Deploying applications to Server and Cloud based environments (Windows Server, Azure, Linux).
  • Developing and supporting no code/low code systems using Power Apps (Dynamics Portal)
  • Troubleshooting and supporting enterprise applications.
  • Writing complex queries for reporting and data manipulation, using SQL query languages (MSSQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Developing reports for PowerBI and Reporting Services.
  • Managing code and projects in Azure DevOps, including development of build and release pipelines.

Desirable:

  • Ability to provide high quality and timely strategic advice and assist with problem solving and issue management for internal and external stakeholders in relation to complex business challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and prepare a range of written material including business cases, agency briefs, and corporate documentation.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy, resolve issues and deliver quality outcomes under broad direction.
  • Ability to undertake complex analysis, interpret ambiguous or incomplete information and apply sound judgement factoring in risks and context when forming conclusions on a course of action.
  • Tertiary qualifications in an IT discipline, relevant industry certifications or demonstrated industry experience will be highly regarded.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting 1 Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
