Description:

Role description: The Assistant Director HR Strategy and Wellbeing has a key role within the People Services team. The role functions as a primary point of contact for managers and senior leaders across the institute. The role will operate in a HR business partner type function and has flexibility to provide advice and support across a range of HR functions. The role is primarily generalist in nature however will focus on areas such as broader HR strategy development, Work Health and Safety (WHS), performance management matters. This role offers plenty of variety and challenging work and is the perfect opportunity for a proactive, motivated and enthusiastic professional who is passionate about HR and is seeking to expand their knowledge and experience of HR, in particular within the APS.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of HR business partner services to managers, Executive Directors, Deputy CEO/COO and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Work in the role of Chief People Officer during periods of leave or special projects.
  • Administrative functions of Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Support managers in people management matters including advice on effective performance management and workforce strategies for business areas.
  • Undertake research and provide guidance on HR strategic operations to ensure currency and alignment to agency and APS strategic goals and plans.
  • Contribute to HR plans and undertake HR projects.

The role will support our people leaders across the employment life-cycle in areas such as, people management, organisational design, workforce planning, workplace change, performance management, employee relations and policy advice. The ideal candidate will:

  • have demonstrated experience in a generalist HR business partnering role, with high level interpersonal, communication, influencing, coaching and conflict resolution skills. In addition, you will have proven experience in maintaining strong working relationships with senior leaders, government agencies and Union representatives.
  • have a broad understanding in all aspects of HR and be able to interpret and apply HR related legislation, policies and procedures whilst providing valuable services to a variety of stakeholders across the agency.
  • good written and verbal communication skills are essential in this role as interaction with staff may be with individuals or through group events such as training and induction sessions. The ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff and managers in agency and external stakeholders is a critical component of the role.
  • be highly organised, can multitask across a diverse range of HR functions simultaneously and able to work effectively and efficiently with a range of stakeholders. A can-do attitude and capability to provide professional and technical HR advice is a must.
  • the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in a style that is tailored to the audience, while being considerate of individual needs and the needs of agency is a critical skill required in the role.
  • have a friendly, approachable manner with an ability to liaise, negotiate and achieve outcomes.
  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and procedure and to be able to articulate these in plain English to staff is also an important attribute.
