The Opportunity
Products at Synaptive include complex electrical systems and on your path as an electrical co-op, you will learn about all of them and how they work to create state-of-the-art medical devices. We are looking for someone who is eager to dig in, learn and actively contribute to our multi-disciplinary team.

What You’ll Do

  • Work under the direction of senior members of the electrical team to support development of our latest products
  • Aid in the design of printed circuit boards, cables and overall electrical hardware architecture
  • Support sustaining engineering activities by assessing, debugging and implementing solutions for issues found in production
  • Build physical prototypes and perform rework by applying techniques such as soldering (including SMT), crimping, and other assembly methods
  • Ensure functionality of engineering prototypes through bench and system level testing
  • Work with other members of the surgical team throughout the hardware design process including requirements generation, preliminary design, peer reviews, detailed design, test plan generation, and integration
  • Generate records (technical reports, presentations, BOMs, drawings) to document history of design and ensure product can be manufactured and maintained at the highest level of quality
  • Conduct, participate and record reviews for software and hardware design, product requirements and risk analysis
  • Work closely with manufacturing team to evaluate design for manufacturability, support test fixture development and facilitate design transfer
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to define and perform testing for design verification including EMC testing and other external laboratory testing related to electrical safety requirements
  • Assist with other tasks, as required

What You’ll Need

  • Enrollment in Mechatronics, Electrical, or equivalent
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Willing to commute to the office up to 4 days a week

It’d Be Amazing If You Had

  • Experience with Altium and/or SolidWorks
  • Knowledgeable of the following standards: IEC 60601, ISO 13485
  • Experience in the design, development, and testing of medical devices
