Working with our partners, you will devise new approaches to problems, prepare drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta (APEGA)
  • 5-7 years work experience in maintenance/reliability electrical engineering
  • Detailed understanding of design codes and standards applicable to the electrical systems (e.g. CSA 22.3, AUEC, NETA, CSA-Z463, CSA-Z462) and Hazardous Area installations
  • Experience with Oil & Gas Electrical Distribution Systems, MV/LV Motors, MV/LV VFDs, Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, EHT, Instrument Transformers, Protection Relays, UPS and Electrical Substations up to 13.8KV.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or other plant maintenance CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • An outstanding ability to prioritize multiple and changing priorities under tight deadlines with strong decision-making skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • An understanding of complex processes, and strive to develop and implement continuous improvement and creative process enhancements

Responsibilities:

  • Develop scopes of work keeping safety as top priority followed by reliability, quality and availability of electrical assets
  • Investigate equipment upsets and provide recommendations, while conducting root cause analysis as required
  • Assess equipment reliability through the use of online condition-based tools such as transformer oil analysis, partial discharge, infrared scanning, online monitoring and offline testing
  • Provide technical support for project and turnaround work
  • Lead, implement and support techniques for bad actors; work with equipment history and life cycle assessments and perform equipment and system reliability assessments
  • Develop electrical installation drawings, data sheets and specifications, in full compliance with recognized industry and safety standards
  • Participate as an active member of the risk review teams and provide leadership in loss management techniques such as the Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) process
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance tasks and procurement of electrical components
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in electrical engineering to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to promote a culture of safety and compliance within the organization.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of improvement initiatives to optimize electrical systems and processes.

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
