Description:

The Role:
The Testing & Commissioning Technician will be on the frontlines of the Renewable power industry by performing acceptance testing on our equipment and supporting our customers with installation/troubleshooting/etc.

Typical duties include:

  • Basic switchboard inspections
  • Configuring protection relays, power meters, etc
  • Functional switchboard tests
  • Point-to-point wiring tests
  • Setting up networks, including wifi, VPNs, PLCs, & other comms

You’ll also support our customers via on-site commissioning support and remote support (e.g. via phone call/Zoom/Teams/etc).
You’ll be joining a tight-knit team of engineers, electricians, technicians who design and build protection/control/SCADA systems for the Renewable power industry, primarily commercial/industrial PV solar and batteries. You’ll be responsible for testing and configuring equipment, owning our factory acceptance testing process, as well as assisting in the design & programming of the control systems such as export control, and SCADA. This will include a variety of duties, such as creating design documents & schematics, configuring PLCs & protection relays, remote support of customers or technicians/electricians, and site travel for commissioning or fault-finding (varies but typically 5-15% of the month). Finally, you’ll help your teammates to refine panel and control system designs.
About You:

We’re looking for a range of attributes, but the essentials are:

  • electrical trade licence (or restricted connect/disconnect licence, or equivalent)
  • a desire to help design renewable generation systems, such as solar farms, hospital battery systems, and micro-grid/off-grid sites
  • 2 years’ experience in power distribution or power generation systems
  • experience reading electrical diagrams/schematics
  • skills in electrical troubleshooting and fault-finding
  • ability to travel, occasionally to remote sites.
  • Full rights to work, and own transport

And any of the following will be very favourably considered:

  • knowledge of protection relays and basic electrical protection (breaker settings, overcurrent, etc.)
  • Experience with factory acceptance or site acceptance testing procedures
  • Experience with stand-alone (off-grid) and/or microgrid (islandable) power systems
  • Experience with PLC programming, preferably Schneider types such as Modicon, Saitel, or Pro-face
  • Exposure to MODBUS, DNP3.0, and/or IEC 61850 protocols
  • Knowledge of State/Territory SIRs, and various DNSP embedded & utility connection requirements would be helpful
