Position Description
Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide quality electrical repair, alteration and minor new construction services to our customers. Under general supervision of the University Housing Maintenance Manager, incumbents in this classification perform the full range of skilled journey-level electrical and related work including the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
Department Summary
Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of five critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Environmental Health & Safety; Energy, Utilities & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects (FPCP); and Facilities Operations. KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
  • Thorough knowledge of the DALI lighting system and related technical operating system such as Linux.
  • Ability to assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses, and to operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate the cost, time and materials of electrical work; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports. Implement designs and troubleshoot electrical circuits to meet customer expectations in a cost effective manner.
    Education and Experience
    Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program.

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $77,503 - $85,239 per year
    Classification Range: $73,812 - $95,304 per year
