Description:

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.
To explain and safely administer Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment to patients with treatment resistant depression under the direction of a consultant psychiatrist To initiate follow up treatment for established patients independently. To fulfil duties of the role with enthusiasm and have positive attitude to working in ECT services. To record patients physical observations (pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation) before, during and after ECT treatment. To coordinate the booking of ECT treatment sessions in coordination with the patient, and members of the clinical team.
To monitor patients for adverse effects before, during and after receiving ECT treatment. To provide medical interventions in an emergency situation including management of cardiac arrest, seizure and syncope. To address any patient discomfort. To ensure that ECT equipment is safely positioned and maintained in line with the trust polices.
To maintain patient confidentiality and treat patients with dignity and respect. To follow established ECT protocols and clinical governance procedures. To communicate effectively with the ECT Clinical Lead and other members of the team locally and other sites. To maintain a high degree of precision regarding ECT administration, in terms of localisation of stimulation site, safe administration and patient monitoring.
To provide supervision to staff within the department. To work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to ensure that standards for ECT are upheld. To ensure robust governance arrangements are in place for the safe delieevery of treatment. To work with patients and carers to improve their experience of the treatment.
To provide education on ECT to other teams
