Responsibilities:
YOUR ROLE:
An exciting opportunity exists in our Burnaby research facility for an energetic and committed staff member in the field of Electronics and Instrumentation. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations serving a diverse range of industrial clients from traditional oil and gas, mining, cleantech and chemical processing, among others.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The core responsibilities of the position are to purchase, install and configure instrumentation and build data acquisition systems on experimental rigs, as well as troubleshooting such systems. Due to the wide variety of experiments performed at Coanda, new instrumentation is always being introduced. Coanda operates several specialized laboratory instruments as well, including Phase-Doppler Interferometers, rheometers, laser diffraction-based particle sizers, x-ray systems, etc. Setup, use, maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems is also part of the job.
In addition to the core instrumentation program, the position offers many opportunities for technical growth. As needed, we program micro controllers, develop circuit boards, program PLCs, and design/fabricate motion control and safety systems. In any of these areas, where there is interest and ability, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills and contribute.
The nature of the contract work Coanda does requires employees to be flexible in their roles. At any point, we may have various rigs under construction and few running experiments, or vice versa. As such, we move laterally and do what it is required for the work at hand. Experience both operating and constructing apparatus such as plumbing, building, machining, welding, etc. is valuable and a willingness to learn more is essential.
