JOB DESCRIPTION:

Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Emergency Medical Technician Instructor. Under the direction of the SCTC principal, this individual must plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students and provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Additionally, they must supervise students in a variety of school-related settings, plan instruction, and monitor and evaluate student outcomes, communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community. Qualified individuals must also ensure that students learn the practical skills to work in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) field and that they safely and effectively operate the equipment and tools used in this career. The EMT program emphasizes safety, procedures, equipment, and tool use while preparing students to take the EMT credential.

  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including the organization, accreditation, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
  • Model professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions within the school and within the community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education or the equivalent in credentialing, training, and/or experience.
  • Emergency Medical Technician credential and CPR certification required.
  • Possess or qualify for a professional license and appropriate endorsement (EMT) as presented by the Virginia Department of Education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all employees.
Salary: This is a 10.5-month position. Please see the starting salary below. Additional compensation is awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience

Responsibilities:

  • Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, industry, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs;
  • Develop authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons and Evaluate student progress; provide students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports;
  • On a regular and consistent basis, meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the designated times.
  • Implement a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff;
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of school administration.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques, which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Spotsylvania County School Board policy, the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and administrative regulation.
  • Furnish required reports within specified timelines with regard to scheduling and instructional activity as requested by the school administration.
  • Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population;
  • Make provision for being available to parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals.
  • Develop, maintain, and supervise clinical experiences for EMT students.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend all staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
  • Participate in student CTE organizations, workshops, and competitions (HOSA.)
  • Take part in promoting and marketing the program to meet enrollment goals.
  • Communicate with students’ high school counselors and administration concerning academic, attendance, or discipline issues that affect a student’s learning and/or grades.
  • Must stay current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of Emergency Medical Technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements, including the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.
  • Maintain detailed lab/classroom inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Director of Career and Technical Education, and Division Superintendent.
