Job Description:
The Emergency Preparedness Lead will be accountable for maintaining, updating, and evaluating all emergency response policies and related education/training with an overarching goal to ensure that CMH staff are well-prepared to respond to Code situations. Evaluation of actual codes are conducted through a Just Culture lens with an aim to remedy systemic issues and improve. The incumbent is well versed in Emergency Management practices/codes within the healthcare sector. The successful candidate is a dynamic lead who can tailor engagement and presentation style to widely varied audience groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent required. Specialization in Emergency Management/Disaster Management or Certified Emergency Manager is an asset.
  • Familiar with Emergency Management practices in Canadian/Ontario healthcare settings is required
  • Five (5) years experience in risk management, emergency preparedness and/or patient safety in acute healthcare required
  • Experience with Incident Command structure is required; at minimum IMS-100 and IMS-200 certified required; more advanced is an asset.
  • Familiar with Accreditation Canada including Standards and Required Organizational Practices (ROPs) is required
  • Regulated Health Professional preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications required
  • Project management experience/certification preferred
  • Familiar with principles of Just Culture and application to post-code reviews is an asset
  • Highly organized demonstrated by the ability to co-manage multiple priorities required
  • Proven ability to present to wide variety of audiences using varied delivery methods required
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with wide variety of staff (front line to executive) is required
  • Proficiency in using software technology to deliver education (i.e. e-Learn development) is an asset
  • Proven ability to foster collaboration and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required

    The successful external applicant is required to provide the applicable criminal record check, as requested by Human Resources, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation. Valid criminal record checks are in original format and dated with two months from date of conditional offer from CMH.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all Cambridge Memorial Hospital emergency code policies
  • Develop, update, implement, evaluate hospital-wide training for Emergency Preparedness/Codes
  • Develop and implement an annual plan for Mock Codes (frequency, leads, evaluation criteria)
  • Develop and maintain corporate business continuity plan(s)
  • Liaise with community partners (City of Cambridge, Cambridge Fire Department, Region of Waterloo, Waterloo Regional Police Services) to ensure alignment of internal polices with external response
  • Liaise with code sub-committees (Code Blue Committee, Code White Committee etc.)
  • Oversee corporate Incident Management System (IMS) including policy updates, training and evaluation
  • Partner with programs to provide corporate oversight/direction for departmental level plans
  • Develop and implement a process for post code reviews
  • Co-chair the Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC)
