Description:
We are offering a unique development opportunity for the right person . As a small team of nurse practitioners , work ing in partnership with the on-cal l surgical team, we are seeking a motivated individual willing to commit to a rigorous academic and clinical training programme designed to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge required for independent practice as an emergency surgical nurse practitioner . The ESNP’s receive emergency surgical referrals, advise on appropriate acute pathways, clinically assess, treat, refer, admit and/or discharge referrals in addition to running Surgical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care), working as part of the on-call team out of hours and supporting medical and nursing staff across the directorate .
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years post-registration experience in an acute environment; have excellent communication skills, a degree of management experience and evidence of continuing professional development. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate their ability to access Masters Level study (the national minimum for Advanced Practice).
Key roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Surgical nurse practitioner
An expert, motivated, dynamic surgical practitioner with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge who:
Leads and influences the contemporary practice across the clinical setting
Effectively communicates complex, sensitive and contentious information.
Champions service improvement through regular audit underpinned by research methodology.
Is an educator, ensuring staff possess the required knowledge, skills and competency for safe, effective care within the clinical setting.
Has the clinical knowledge, authority and accountability to autonomously assess, diagnose, prescribe medication and initiate treatment/discharge plans for patients within the practice area.
Is accountable for quality governance within own area of practice
Ensures that care is based and planned on individual assessment for a positive patient and carer experience.
Provides support and guidance for all members of the inter-disciplinary team delivering care to patients.
In conjunction with the AIR team/Registrar responds to the new needs of deteriorating ward patients as appropriate
