The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 114-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Employee & Labour Relations Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing claims, overseeing attendance programs, and coordinating various P&C initiatives to support our staff and enhance workplace productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice, guidance, and coaching on various staffing matters, including the application of PNE policies and procedures, legislation, employment law, and general practices.
  • Manage employee & labour relations issues including but not limited to employee investigations, advising on disciplinary issues, developing and compiling documentation, and reviewing employee personnel files.
  • Promote, encourage and foster a positive and cooperative labour relations environment amongst Union representatives, management and employee groups.
  • Manage the grievance process under the guidance of the Director and provide advice and assistance to management throughout the grievance process, ensuring expedient handling, resolution, and documentation of all grievances.
  • Investigate and respond to queries or issues raised by managers, employees, and union representatives, and provide recommendations and strategies for resolution.
  • Ensure implementation and compliance of negotiated terms and conditions of the collective agreement required and in accordance with the agreement.
  • Oversee claims and disability management programs including: WorkSafe BC, Short Term Disability & Long Term Disability; coordinate return to work plans for employees as required.
  • Oversee attendance management program and manage medical and personal leaves of absence.
  • Develop various training and development initiatives across the organization, ranging from seasonal management training presentations, Labour Relations 101, to identifying training needs and training module development for PNE Management team for the application of PNE Policies & Procedures.
  • Update and support the development and roll-out of PNE policies and procedures as required.
  • Provide support with cycle recruitment during seasonal peak periods for a variety of job vacancies, including screening and interviewing candidates for entry-level, professional, or technical job openings as required.
  • Perform other related duties/responsibilities as assigned
