The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a charity that reduces crime and makes Calgary communities safer by helping youth and adults make positive changes and move away from criminal behaviour. We do this by addressing the root causes of crime through housing, education, employment programs and support so that individuals have alternatives to breaking the law. QUALIFICATIONS

The Employment Developer will have relevant post-secondary education and/or experience. They will have an understanding of the criminal justice system and target population served in addition to strength-based and client-centred service provision, trauma-informed practice and harm reduction principles. The successful candidate will be outgoing, creative, innovative, enthusiastic and be a strong team player. An ability to build relationships, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and solid case management skills are integral to this role. A current criminal record check (CPIC) is required (within the past 3 months).
This is a full-time, full-benefit position (40 hours/week).
Group facilitation experience and Brain Story Certification will be considered assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Assessing individuals’ employment skills, strengths, experiences, employment goals and barriers, and developing individualized action plans designed to enhance employability and secure employment
  • Coordinating and facilitating education and training for clients and internal or external referrals as needed
  • Providing ongoing case management and extended support for clients as needed
  • Facilitating workshops for external agencies to build community capacity to work with the target population
  • Establishing and nurturing employer relations, facilitating the hiring of clients and providing ongoing support to employers as needed for employee retention
  • Attending at career events to share information and assist clients with criminal records to secure employment
  • Program marketing, networking, and building supportive working relationships with community resources
  • Ongoing development of intake and assessment processes, outcome measurement and evaluation tools
  • Data collection, database input, casework documentation, and completing participant and employer evaluations
  • Internal and external reporting as required and related administrative tasks
  • Participation in regularly scheduled agency and team meeting
