THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking to recruit a professionally qualified, technical advisory services consultant to work on a variety of projects in the District Heating and Power Generation sectors across the UK and Europe (other global experience beneficial) with a multi skilled background. The candidate will have knowledge of the following technologies:

  • District heating and district cooling networks and energy centres
  • Thermal power generation including Energy from Waste and Biomass,
  • Renewable and emerging technologies which could include;

o Ground Source, Water Source and Air Source Heat Pumps;
o Biomass Heat Only Boilers;
o Anaerobic Digestion (production of biogas and biomethane);

o Solar Photovoltaic (“PV”);

  • Energy services businesses which could include;

o metering;
o energy as a service (i.e. the provision of heating, electricity, steam or cooling to a commercial or industrial site);
The successful candidate will have an engineering and/or consultancy background and will have experience in technical due diligence services such as buyside or sell side technical due diligence, lenders technical advisory (“LTA”), Owners Engineer (“OE”) or technical asset management.
The candidate would fit into an established, growing and award-winning advisory services team of around 150 people based in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Manchester, working on a range of UK and international assignments in the Urban Energy and Energy Transition sectors. Our mandates range from small scale distributed generation and storage assets to multi-utility portfolios spanning across large geographies for some of the most prestigious private and public sector clients globally.
In addition to typical buyside and sell side technical due diligence and project development assignments, there will be an opportunity to play a role on mandates in corporate finance and energy economics. There would also be the opportunity to undertake projects in other sectors where we have an established capability: natural resources, renewable power generation (wind, solar, hydropower), utilities (gas, water, electricity), for example.
You will advise clients on the technical and operational characteristics of assets and / or portfolio companies during the acquisition stage, leading projects, project teams and discrete sections of technical due diligence reports.
You will work directly with clients and seize initiative whilst being supported by senior team members. You will have the opportunity to attend site visits (generally in the UK and Europe) and build your client management and relationship skills.
You will also be responsible for reviewing technical specification, evaluating tenders, reviewing contracts - particularly, engineering, procurement and construction and operations & maintenance contracts, and then also reviewing technical reports (condition assessment and root cause analysis etc.), specifications, designs and drawings to understand key technical risks; and you will liaise with specialists to reduce the impacts of risks.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Responsibilities:

We would like to speak with people who have:

  • Knowledge and background in conducting technical due diligence assignments or have operational or engineering experience in District Heating, Power Generation and Energy Services sectors.
  • Typically, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) working background or degree
  • A strong interest and proven capability in supporting business development and client engagement.
