QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science degree (or working toward graduation prior to start).
- 0 – 2 years of relevant and consecutive work experience.
- Experience with building HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
- Utility billing analysis and energy savings spreadsheet calculations.
- D.C. Energy Codes and/or ASHRAE standards.
- BEPS (Building Energy Performance Standards)
- SkyFoundry’s SkySpark platform.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to type, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to climb stairs, use elevators and exterior construction hoists, and may be exposed to cold and hot interior and exterior temperatures for extended periods of time (when in the field).
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional overnight travel may be required (Less than 10%). Frequent local field visits in the Metro area will be necessary (approximately 40-50%). A valid and clean driving license is required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This is a hybrid position: we work with our employees to find a balance that works for the employee, the team and the firm depending on the job requirements. Most of the duties will be performed in an office/home office environment. The remainder of the duties will be performed in the field which will involve trips to projects sites for observation and training.

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) is looking for a dedicated professional to join our Building Operations, Decarbonization, and Efficiency team (BODE) in our D.C. office. This role is integral to our expanding team, offering commissioning, energy auditing, retrofit, and smart building services for multifamily, commercial, institutional, cultural/art center, and community center buildings in the D.C. Metropolitan area and beyond.
The proposed annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 based on a 40-hour work schedule. The final salary may vary depending on confirmed job-related skills and experience.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform project work for commissioning, energy auditing, and retro-commissioning of new construction and existing buildings.
- Complete technical project work, including reviewing construction documents, submittals, and code requirements, developing testing plans, and inspecting installations.
- Conduct terminal unit functional testing, record review comments, and document inspection findings in issues logs and memos.
- Provide written technical and non-technical reports for program compliance and ownership review.
- Work together with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including project managers, energy modelers, sustainability consultants, and accessibility consultants.
