Our energy clients include Governments, regulators, new build developers and site licence companies. The London Energy Hub includes energy specialist advisors working right across the built environment including in renewables, hydrogen, transitional fuels and city energy resilience.

THE OPPORTUNITY

To support our growth in low / no carbon energy, Arup is seeking an Associate Director to join our Energy, Water and Resources (EWR) Team in London and become an integral part of the London Energy Hub with a background of engineering project management and delivery at a senior level within the energy sector. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on positioning for, winning and delivering work in the energy and resilience sector in their areas of expertise, including the management of multi-disciplinary teams of designers, engineers and advisors. As part of the Energy Hub and the wider expertise across EWR London, the successful candidate will also be expected to collaboratively support bidding and delivering work within their insight and expertise.
The Arup London Energy Hub provides a collaborative working environment with multi-disciplinary designers, engineers, consultants and advisors coming together to deliver projects across the energy sector. The candidate is also expected to work collaboratively with the broader Arup energy expertise in other UK and Global locations.
As this is a senior role in the business, the successful candidate is expected to provide leadership in establishing the right culture and behaviours, and strategically position Arup externally with clients in the energy sector to establish market position and increase the breadth and range of services we supply. You will provide strategic insight and understanding of client organisations and critical drivers, and have a focus on working with the Energy Leadership to support continued growth in the UK and transforming the energy team. The role will involve directing, leading and delivering energy projects to ensure successful outcomes, and being strategic integrator for complex technical projects, including governance, assurance, quality and efficient delivery.
Predominantly being fee earning you will be expected to win work in areas of expertise and position Arup effectively for multi-disciplinary consultancy work, while supporting and growing the technical team being Bid Manager/Bid Director, Project Manager/Project Director and Client Relationship Manager as appropriate.

The successful candidate will bring in-depth background from within the energy sector with demonstrable leadership experience in major engineering projects and programmes. The ideal candidate will;

  • Be appropriately qualified in leading work in the energy sector in their areas of expertise with multiple energy clients, as well as in guiding energy design, engineering and /or advisory projects.
  • Be able to deliver complex technical projects and programmes and understand critical client drivers.
  • Be a recognised industry ‘face’, who can win work through reputation
  • Be self-starting and able to operate effectively in an Arup stakeholder environment developing strong relationships with clients and partners, Arup team members and the wider Arup leadership.
  • Have the ability to lead a team and promote technical and personal development.
  • Possess proven capability to win and deliver work in area of expertise and grow high performing teams in these areas.
  • Be educated to degree level with a post-graduate qualification preferre

Some work outside normal office hours may be vital and travel to and from client sites /or temporary assignments to clients’ offices may also be needed. There will be opportunities for international travel and applicants with a desire for non-UK-based assignments will be welcomed.
