Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our adult day center participants by planning and facilitating a wide range of engaging and stimulating activities, including community involvement initiatives. This position is responsible for creating a positive and inclusive environment, promoting social interaction, and addressing the individual needs and interests of our participants through community activities and volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with seniors or adults with disabilities in a similar role is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic and patient with a genuine passion for improving the lives of older adults.
  • Ability to plan and adapt activities to accommodate various physical and cognitive abilities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities:

  1. Activity Planning and Execution:
  • Develop and implement a diverse and creative activities program tailored to the interests and abilities of participants.
  • Plan and organize daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules.
  • Utilize therapeutic and recreational techniques to improve participants’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  1. Community Involvement and Volunteer Engagement:
  • Collaborate with local community organizations, businesses, and volunteers to enrich participants’ lives through community-based activities.
  • Coordinate outings, field trips, and visits to local attractions to foster a sense of community and connection.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate community volunteers to assist with activities and provide companionship to participants.
  1. Participant Engagement:
  • Foster positive relationships with participants, promoting a sense of belonging and community.
  • Encourage social interaction and cognitive stimulation through group activities, community outings, and one-on-one interactions.
  • Tailor activities to accommodate varying physical and cognitive abilities.
  1. Assessment and Individualized Care:
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of participants’ preferences, abilities, and needs.
  • Develop and maintain individualized care plans based on assessment results.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure participants’ overall well-being.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of participants’ progress, attendance, and participation in activities.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required for program evaluation and compliance purposes.
  1. Safety and Well-Being:
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during all activities, including community outings.
  • Follow established protocols for emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Stay updated on best practices in therapeutic recreation and adult day care services.
  • Attend relevant training and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
