Experience with one or more of the following areas in Grid Modernization (industrial experience preferred, academic project work may be considered if applicable):
- Distribution Engineering and/or Automation
- MRS / NERC CIP Compliance
- Protection and Control
- Commissioning, testing and validation of medium voltage electric grid equipment
- Distributed energy resource (DER) modeling and distribution system planning
- Technical knowledge in Electric Utility Engineering
- Proficiency with MS office suite including MS Project
- Demonstrated abilities around safety in laboratories and in the field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to optimally adapt to a constrained schedule and perform under pressur
Responsibilities:
Powertech’s Grid Resilience Technologies is focused on helping utilities, manufacturers, and partners across the globe in understanding and managing the changes to electric utility distribution that is being driven by new and ‘smart’ communicating devices and technologies. Our department offers services in distribution grid management, MRS/NERC CIP compliance, distributed energy resources, critical infrastructure communications and mobile applications.
As a member of Grid Resilience Technologies (GRT) team, you will be reporting to the Engineering Team Lead and supporting the team in executing a diverse portfolio of projects with varying complexities in the fields of distribution engineering, automation and system assessments, SCADA, protection and control, asset management, MRS/NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), DER integration and distribution equipment testing/pre-commissioning. The selected candidate’s role will encompass project management and coordination along with leadership in delivering technical work. This is a hands-on client focused role that will appeal to those who enjoy working directly with clients, learning about new technologies and delivering high quality engineering work.
- Participate in the planning, preparation and execution of critical projects, tests, and deliverables according to international standards and customer requirements in the office, laboratory, and the field.
- Participate in design of test methods and putting them into practice.
- Manage and coordinate projects or components of projects including scope, budget, schedule, and quality in accordance with company’s quality controls and leveraging company resources and processes.
- Prepare detailed technical reports.
- Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of projects and testing.
- Promote Powertech services to existing and potential clients to facilitate the flow of projects and work for the group and Powertech.
- Respond to requests for quotations and proposals from clients, and provide detailed technical proposals, cost estimates, and work schedules.
- Develop innovative engineering techniques and apply theoretical and practical knowledge in testing, analysis, and problem resolution.
- Maintain professional relationships and communication with other departments, outside consultants, contractors, and suppliers in order to effectively and efficiently gather and relay information and resolve issues.
- Participate in maintenance and improvements of laboratory equipment and operations with emphasis on achieving high quality and cost-effectiveness.

What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering recognized by universities in Canada.
- Registered or eligible for immediate registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers & Geoscientists of BC.
- Entry level experience in electrical engineering as well as related Co-op experience is acceptable.
- Must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license or equivalent
