Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.
The Role
We have a new opportunity for an Engineer in our Safety Risk team, based in Perth, Western Australia. Our team uses a number of techniques to understand the impact of fire, explosion, toxic and impact hazards associated with project or operations activities. We build on this knowledge to assess the risk to people and plant for projects, operations and decommissioning projects in the oil, gas and petrochemicals, new energies and defence markets. We work closely with the based Perth advanced analysis team offering the opportunity to expand your understanding of techniques including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA).
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join our team of specialist consultants at a time when we are rapidly expanding our business in Australia.

Our Perth office includes many opportunities to work in a client facing environment and as your knowledge develops, you will be able to shape the direction of our business. Day to day tasks in this role may include:

  • Workshop skills – HAZOP, HAZID, Bowtie Analysis (recording)
  • Consequence analysis (for people and plant) including fire, explosion, toxic releases, impact assessments
  • Frequency assessment using applicable datasets
  • Risk assessment using fault trees, event trees, excel based tools and specialist software
  • Researching and interpreting applicable codes and standards and current industry practice
  • Build models and undertake engineering analysis using computational tools (CFD, FEA etc.)
  • Writing technical reports and presenting results to clients
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, both internal and external to the business.

Requirements

  • We are looking for an Engineering or physical sciences graduate with the ability to demonstrate an excellent understanding of engineering principles.
  • You will need to be a team player who is looking to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced consulting environment with strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to read and understand a range of engineering drawings will be an advantage.
  • Up to two years’ experience.
