Description:

QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering or (from an ABET accredited school).
  • Massachusetts PE license.
  • Five or more years of electrical equipment / system design or production / construction experience in engineering consulting.
  • Understanding of current codes.
  • Revit and AutoCAD experience.
  • Forensic, failure analysis, or troubleshooting experience.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Proficiency in ETAP or SKM Power Tools, preferred.
  • Ambitious, self-motivated, hands-on, and team oriented.
  • A desire to learn, excel and grow with us and within the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):

  • PE license from other state than Mass
  • Able to travel to sites when necessary
  • LEED other certifications

Responsibilities:

THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND DUTIES ARE NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY BUT ARE NOT ALL INCLUSIVE:

The Sr. Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing the electrical systems, power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, emergency power, UPS, and renewable energy systems, for the purpose of bidding and construction for various projects, including Mission Critical.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports.
  • Creates sketches and system schematics for complicated electrical power systems.
  • Provide direction and guidance to Drafters and Designers working on various design tasks, such as the layout of mechanical or electrical rooms, UPS rooms, Generator equipment yards, etc.
  • Prepare technical reports detailing cause of damage / failure, damage observed, and test results.
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, or architects, as necessary to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Review contractor submittals to determine conformance with plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Review and analyze building codes and industry standards, working with code officials as needed, to identify system requirements.
  • Confer with other engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical direction.
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Research, design, and evaluate electrical generation and distribution products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, apply knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on customer problems and needs.
  • Construction Administration: attend meetings, provide construction inspection and produce observation reports and punch lists for outstanding or non-conforming work.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specification, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Present analysis and assessment findings to colleagues and clients.
  • Be active in professional associations and societies.
  • Research develop technical topics (publication/continuing education are strongly encouraged).
  • Provide code research and evaluations.
  • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials. Brief the electrical department and clients on findings and recommendations for compliance paths where applicable to specific projects.
  • Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for electrical systems and review contractor cost estimates for applicability to project scope.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Participate in company-wide special projects (BIM, Standards, adoption of revised Codes and new technology)
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks.
  • Mentor junior staff and directs and reviews their work.
  • Keep updated with new technologies, changing building codes and industry trends / advances.
  • Review and apply Professional Registration Seal to all electrical and fire alarm drawings produced by AHA.
