Job description:Engineer for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy (m/f/d)
Background
The core of the AWI’s NMR laboratory is a 9.4T MRI scanner for the investigation of living marine organisms. For this we develop multi-parameter MRI and MRS methods to obtain an integrative understanding of climate- and anthropogenic-induced physiological changes in polar and marine organisms. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the operation of the MRI and the general workflow in the NMR lab, to assist in the preparation, measurement and data analysis of in vivo MR experiments, as well as to support and train external users.

Tasks

  • System administration and maintenance of the device and laboratory computers, including data backup
  • Ensuring the operation of the magnetic resonance tomograph (MRT), including updates
  • Image processing of 2D and 3D data sets; segmentation and quantification of volume data
  • Evaluation of dynamic functional MR data (e.g. cardiac function), including statistical processing using univariate and multivariate methods
  • Evaluation of in vivo MRS data sets
  • Evaluation of longitudinal and multimodal imaging data sets with the support of AI-based evaluation methods

Requirements

  • Academic degree (Master) in the field of engineering, physics or similar.
  • Practical experience in the operation of nuclear magnetic resonance equipment (NMR, MRI) and data analysis with relevant software (Bruker ParaVision, Horus, MestRe, Fidji)
  • Experience in performing in vivo MRI experiments on animals, preferably aquatic invertebrates
  • Experience in the development, programming and application of MRI and MRS methods for in vivo experiments
  • Commitment and willingness to learn and adapt analytical methods in the field of NMR, MRI and automation
  • Good communication skills and fluency in written and spoken German or English

Desirable skills and knowledge

  • Ability to perform animal experiments
  • Knowledge of performing in vivo MR experiments
