Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking an Engineer, Planning Governance.
The Engineer, Planning Governance will be part of the team responsible for developing and facilitating the structures and processes that establish the Planning function’s strategic direction, professional standards, oversee the delivery of compliant and consistent outputs, monitor key risks, and report on the function’s performance. The successful candidate will govern the Planning function, which includes three departments: Master Scheduling, Production Planning, and Industrial Engineering.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a P.Eng. with equivalent experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years of professional experience.
  • Experience working on cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience managing a variety of concurrent tasks and small projects.
  • Strong applied critical thinking skills with proven ability to solve problems.
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience writing reports, guides, presentations, etc.
  • Strong oral communication skills, including experience presenting to large groups and communicating with a variety of stakeholders across all levels in an organization.
  • Embraces continual improvement and the application of best practices.
  • Competent with current industry accepted software such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, etc.
  • Experience in quality, continual improvement, and/or process development an asset.
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and auditing, or willingness to complete training within the first year of employment.
    All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain the Governance team’s documentation and processes.
  • Develop tools in Microsoft Office and applications in SharePoint to support Governance documentation and processes.
  • Act as subject matter expert in the development and management of the Planning function’s processes.
  • Support leadership in strategic and improvement initiatives.
  • Coach Planning function team members and conduct training on the Governance team’s documentation, processes, tools, and applications.
  • Evaluate the Planning function’s adherence to the Governance processes.
  • Monitor quality management system metrics for the Planning function.
