JOB SUMMARY:

An Engineering Outsourced Leader in an injection molding plant is responsible for managing and coordinating engineering projects and tasks that are outsourced to external vendors or contractors. Their role involves overseeing the relationship between the injection molding plant and external engineering firms or consultants, ensuring that outsourced projects are completed successfully and meet the plant’s requirements. The role of an Engineering Outsourced Leader in an injection molding plant is to effectively manage outsourced engineering projects, ensuring that they are executed smoothly, meet quality standards, and contribute to the overall success of the plant’s operations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum, bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a relevant discipline is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: High Level of technical aptitude and knowledge of mold design with a minimum 7 years’ experience in mold design and project management. Several years of experience in engineering roles within the injection molding industry is essential. Should have a strong understanding of injection molding processes, equipment, and materials. Preferred experience in plastics or injection mold industry with 2 shot rotary mold exposure.
  • NX software experience considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in project management, particularly managing outsourced engineering projects, is highly desirable. This may include experience in coordinating activities with external vendors, contractors, or consulting firms.

Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job’s key responsibilities include:

  • Vendor Selection: involved in the selection and evaluation of external engineering vendors or contractors. They assess potential vendors based on their capabilities, expertise, track record, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Project Management: They manage outsourced engineering projects from initiation to completion, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables. They develop project plans, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Coordination: serves as the primary point of contact between the injection molding plant and external engineering vendors. They facilitate communication and collaboration between internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure alignment of goals and expectations.
  • Quality Assurance: They ensure that outsourced engineering projects meet the required quality standards and specifications. This may involve conducting quality reviews, inspections, and audits to verify compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Oversight: The Engineering Outsourced Leader provides technical guidance and expertise to external engineering vendors as needed. They review technical documentation, design plans, and engineering drawings to ensure accuracy and feasibility. Reviews designs received from outsource and provides necessary feedback as it relates to quality and best practices. Reviews feasibilities from part data overlays for tool impact and quality. Co-ordinates with the Engineering Manager for additional resources in peak workload times.
  • Cost Management: They manage the budget for outsourced engineering projects and strive to optimize costs while maintaining quality and performance standards. This may involve negotiating contracts, tracking expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Risk Management: They identify and mitigate risks associated with outsourced engineering projects, such as delays, budget overruns, or technical issues. They develop contingency plans and proactive strategies to address potential risks and minimize their impact on project outcomes.
  • Relationship Management: They foster positive relationships with external engineering vendors and contractors to build long-term partnerships. They address any issues or concerns that may arise during the project and work collaboratively to find solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: seeks opportunities for process improvement and optimization in the outsourcing process. Review and analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the outsource process. They evaluate performance metrics, solicit feedback from stakeholders, and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Attends internal leadership meetings for continuous improvement and implements necessary actions.
