QUALIFICATIONS

FV-C: To qualify for the FV-C, you must be currently enrolled full time or at least half time in an accredited educational institution (college, university, vocational school, trade school, etc.) and show completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study. Full or half time enrollment is defined by your educational institution.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Degree Requirement: course of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
This occupation has specific educational requirements for entry and applicants must show evidence that their planned academic program will meet those requirements (i.e. transcript reflecting enrollment in applicable programs). Students who graduate without meeting those requirements may not be converted to the target position and could be separated from federal service. Educational requirements for conversion to the target position are: Degree in Professional Engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least 1 curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2)include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than 1st year physics & chemistry) in 5 of these 7 areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
The selecting official may decide to interview all, some or none of the candidates referred for consideration.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES

The position will involve periods of pertinent formal education and periods of employment within various FAA organizations. The goal is for the student trainee to become familiar with work in support of architecture and engineering occupations, programs, projects and functions of the assigned organization in the Engineering and Architecture Group.
The Engineering and Architecture Student Trainee is responsible for assisting in architecture and engineering occupations and providing support work as it relates to management, program and administrative analysis, and process evaluation.
The student trainee performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/ program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee. The work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to the activities of the organizational unit.
The student works with teams working on mission-related projects. Engages in meaningful learning and development activities while applying basic knowledge and limited experience in performing tasks. Assists manager and other employees in day-to-day operations.
Works with more experienced team members in compiling and consolidating data, computing or verifying the accuracy of human resource management occupations and support more experienced team member, team lead, project/program manager or manager of discrepancies. Identifies discrepancies and data omissions and regularly refers these problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee for guidance.
Receives detailed instructions from a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee as to performing specific tasks such as, searching historical files for readily available background information such as recent staff or function changes, organizational charts, mission and function statements, and position descriptions. Supports higher level employees in the design of organization and workflow charts, using graphic design software.
Assists and supports the day-to-day tasks associated with a variety of the Engineering and Architecture Group of positions and will include work assignments that concentrate in one or more of the following areas: Various engineering disciplines - General, Safety, Fire Protection, Materials, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Bioengineering and Biomedical, Aerospace, Chemical, Industrial. Additionally, concentration areas may include Architecture Series. This group also includes Technician duties and responsibilities in Engineering Technician, Construction Control and Electronics.
Construction Oversight, Contracting Services, Purchasing Services, Property Disposal, Public Utilities, Trade, Industrial, Production Control and/or Realty. Assignments and tasks will serve to provide support to mission-related work goals and objectives.
Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit to share basic information and to receive guidance. In some areas, may have limited contacts with external customers. Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.
