Responsibilities:

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting into the VP of Engineering, as the Engineering Director you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of software engineers in the SMS (Safety Management Systems) engineering team to develop and deliver high-quality software solutions. This role is crucial for driving the strategic direction and execution of our engineering initiatives.
You will be responsible for providing technical guidance, mentoring team members, and driving continuous improvement in engineering processes. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Team Management: Oversee the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of engineering staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
  • Engineering Excellence: Ensure engineering excellence through code reviews, testing, and adherence to best practices.
  • Project Management: Manage engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments such as Product Management, Quality Assurance and Delivery to ensure engineering efforts support overall business objectives.
  • Culture: Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability within the engineering team.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and expertise to the engineering team, helping to solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve engineering processes and practices to increase efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to engineering projects, ensuring potential issues are addressed proactively.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Represent the engineering team in stakeholder and executive meetings and provide regular updates on project status, engineering initiatives, progress, and challenges.
  • Stay Current: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in engineering management.
