Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team in the power and electric division, focusing on transmission and distribution linear projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic planning, development, and execution of projects that enhance our infrastructure’s reliability and efficiency. This is a leadership role that requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and team management to ensure our projects are delivered successfully on time, and within budget.
Flexible/hybrid work arrangements are available, as Merjent promotes this for self-sufficient professionals who can work and/or learn successfully in a remote work environment. The anticipated salary for this position is between $182,500 and $219,500, depending on qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the power and electric sector, with a strong background in transmission and distribution projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred, but not required.
- Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale engineering projects, particularly linear projects, from conception to completion.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers and technical staff.
- Excellent strategic planning, project management, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
The Engineering Director in transmission and distribution design is responsible for the following:
- Lead the engineering team in the planning, design, and execution of transmission and distribution projects, with a focus on linear projects.
- Oversee project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, design, planning, execution, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies, processes, and practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness within the division.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, finance, regulatory affairs, and external stakeholders, to ensure project success.
- Manage and mentor engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact project planning and execution.
- Ensure rigorous risk management practices are in place, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with projects.
