Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Engineering Intern to be based in our Burnaby, BC office. While this is a co-op position, the ideal successful candidate will have a general understanding of civil design, construction, and some experience in civil engineering. They will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and clients. They will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and display drive, energy, and enthusiasm for getting things done! The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of linear conveyance infrastructure to customers mostly within the municipal storm water, water and wastewater sector.
This is a temporary full-time role expected to begin in September 2024.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgement and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Assist in the design of civil systems associated with municipal water and/or wastewater /drainage conveyance facilities
- Assist in writing of technical memorandums and reports
- Performing construction inspections
- Prepare engineering-related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
- Develop solutions for routine technical problems with limited scope.
- Assisting with the preparation of construction cost estimates
- Assisting with the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering.
- Must have completed at least two years of study.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Experience in civil engineering, construction, hydraulic modelling, planning, and design construction inspection
- Knowledge of water / wastewater / drainage conveyance infrastructure in a Municipal environment
- Knowledge of blue and green infrastructure: ponds, wetlands, bioswales, raingardens, etc.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients
- Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Experience with AutoCAD/ Civil 3D
