This is an exciting space that’s seeing significant business change in the broader banking landscape and is a key focus for the Consumer Lending business.
About the role
The cards engineering team create software within the banking systems that are deployed across web, mobile and tablet and give our prospects easy access to apply for a card, and our customers an easy way to use their card.
We seek people with a desire to learn, an ability to build thought-partnerships with a broad range of specialists across functions, and the patience and resilience to execute strategies that will evolve with changing customer, market and regulatory contexts.
We can offer you the opportunity to work within an engaged diverse team at the forefront of transforming and optimising our Consumer Bank.
As a senior technology leader You’ll blend your deep domain and technical expertise to deliver technology solutions in partnership with other LBG technology functions and with 3rd party providers.
Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too…

Here’s where you’ll make a difference:

  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Platform Leads, Enterprise Architects & Engineers to coordinate and lead the technology teams for one of our two credit card labs
  • Partner with Solution Architecture & Enterprise Architecture to ensure we have a clear future plan for the system architecture
  • Work with business stakeholders to better understand the emerging credit landscape and to spot new opportunities for growth within the credit card space
  • Provide inspiring leadership across teams of engineers developing and supporting modern technology solutions
  • Own the technology culture within your lab, ensuring we have a high performance culture where people take initiative and deliver on commitments
  • Supply critical technical feedback to the financial investment process in order to obtain funding for key solution opportunities
  • Provide influential leadership beyond the lab across the whole platform area, and more broadly within the wider technology department at LBG
  • Champion culture of inclusivity and diversity

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Self-motivated and capable of driving delivery in a new business area
  • Experience in a wide range of modern platforms and technologies
  • Strong capabilities for working with and influencing 3rd party providers
  • Great communication skills with business leaders and non-technical staff
  • Appreciation of how to use technology to deliver business change
  • Inspirational technology leader with a passion for rapidly delivering high quality software
  • Passionate about innovation, learning, and delivering value to our customers and users.

We’ll take your personal and professional development seriously. An opportunity to play your part in our purpose of Helping Britain Prosper, shaping the financial services of the future. With a variety of opportunities to learn, grow and develop, in a values-led culture.
Our focus is to ensure we’re inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms.
We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity, or culture. We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative. And it is why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups. We’re disability confident. So, if you would like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual performance-related bonus
  • Share schemes including free shares.
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping.
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
