Description:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe and available operation of all production equipment and services whilst maintaining standards in H&S and GMP.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the sourcing, installation and maintenance of new equipment including production Automation designed to increase production capacity and lower labour costs.
The Engineering Manager is a Senior Management role with line management responsibility for the Maintenance Manager. The Engineering Manager works closely with other departments including H&S, Hygiene, Manufacturing and Technical to provide a holistic service to our internal and external customers.
Member of the Operations Team, reporting into the Head of Operations, based at Warrenpoint, Newry, Northern Ireland.

Duties:

  • Putting Staff Welfare and Food Safety first in all decisions.
  • Full responsibility for all H&S risk assessments linked to equipment or facility work carried out by external contractors or our inhouse teams.
  • Full Responsibility for personnel management within the Maintenance team so that all rotas and shifts are adequately filled with trained, on-boarded staff members with clear job descriptions and roles.
  • Full Responsibility to ensure that Engineering and Maintenance costs meet budgeted cost standards including external maintenance service providers and contractors.
  • Implement and maintain key performance indicators for the staff members within the department that contribute to the overall business KPIs.
  • Input to budgetary and capital expenditure plans for the manufacturing sites and equipment.
  • Ensure that all factory rules and regulations linked to H&S, BRCGS, Food Safety and staff welfare are upheld by members of the Engineering Team and all service contractors within the factory areas.
  • Work with the NPD team for factory trials and on boarding of new products, ensuring that all proposed products are screened for equipment suitability before launch.
  • Manage the introduction of process automation to increase capacity and reduce labour costs, confirming the ROI for all projects.
  • Ensure engineering spares and consumables are procured and managed to meet engineering and production needs at minimum cost.
  • Put in place and manage a planned preventative maintenance programme with the objective of maximising operational efficiencies and reducing downtime.
  • Plan and control maintenance of utilities and services to ensure agreed availability and drive efficiency improvements within budgeted cost.
  • Drive Lean Manufacture, standardisation, and continuous improvement across the Engineering team.
  • Work closely with and facilitate the Business Support and IT functions of the site to introduce Digital transformation across our business.
  • Contribute to the culture team and help to create an environment where we retain our teams and nurture them to be the best versions of themselves at work.
  • Support projects to meet site Sustainability Targets on Energy use.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Three years management experience in an Engineering function.
  • Qualified to a minimum of HNC level in an engineering discipline
  • Proven experience of online preventative maintenance software
  • Budget control of capital and maintenance expenditure.
  • Apprenticeship trained and tested.
  • Experience in dealing with external service providers and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced changing environment whilst proven experience of objective delivery.
