General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity located in Poway, CA for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a Project Engineering team supporting the USMC MQ-9 Reaper Program.
With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the design, testing, fielding, and user training of complicated systems, software, and capabilities in support of the MUX MALE USMC configuration. The position will lead a team of three to five engineers responsible for technical design, site and operational test support, as well as customer interaction in close partnership with the Program Management team. Communicates with engineering professionals, solution users, and management throughout the system lifecycle; represents the company as a prime technical contact on assigned system(s) or project(s)/program(s); selects, motivates, and develops professional and support staff; interacts with senior internal and external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations; anticipates future engineering needs; and, develops new or expands existing business opportunities.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least five of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment. Able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, and original work(s) published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required

Responsibilities:

  • Determines annual and multi-year technical and program objectives.
  • Act as expert consultant and advisor to customers and internal management.
  • Directs the activities of assigned project(s)/program(s) to achieve technical, schedule, and financial objectives.
  • Directs and allocates technical resources and professional staff to achieve objectives.
  • Ensures compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Participates in the planning, selection, retention, and development of the professional staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
