About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager – ICT/Software to provide their technical expertise and people leadership skills on the HMIE (Hydro-METOC Information Environment) Project. This key position will report to the Project Manager and will be offered on a permanent full time basis. The position will be preferably based in Edinburgh Adelaide, however it can also be based in Canberra, Sydney CBD or Melbourne CBD.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
HMIE is the ICT environment that manages the hydrographic, meteorological, and oceanographic data and information associated with Australia’s waterways. HMIE’s tools and products are used by Military, Commercial, and leisure end-users. The HMIE Sustainment project maintains the existing HMIE network in use by the Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO), including compiling and maintaining the hydrographic database. The project includes nautical charting and services in support of maritime safety, the coordination and determination of policy and standards which cover both hydrographic surveying and charting, as well contributing to the coordination, exchange and standards related to maritime geospatial data in general.

Responsibilities:

  • Estimate, resource and deliver the engineering (software and/or ICT) effort required for the technical solutions with consideration of quality, cost and schedule
  • Lead and oversee a team of engineering professionals, ensuring the effective delivery of engineering services
  • Coach and support personnel, drive a culture of best practice and continuous improvement, fostering a high performance culture
  • Produce and review project survey and quotes
  • Collaborate effectively and build good relationships with customers, internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a positive work culture
  • Develop engineering tactical plans for execution of the technical aspects and formulate the technical approach of the work to be performed
  • Identify and manage technical risk within the project and support the Project Manager in risk management reviews

About YOU

  • Extensive ICT engineering or software engineering experience and a good understanding of ICT/Software system environments
  • Relevant engineering tertiary degree and the ability to obtain Chartered Professional Engineer status
  • The ability to provide effective leadership, direction and motivation to teams
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Good problem solving skills, self-motivation and the drive to improve current processes
  • Whilst not essential, Defence industry experience will be highly regarded
