Description:

SumUp enables merchants around the world to get paid easily, process orders quickly, sell online instantly and manage their money more efficiently. SumUp creates the tools merchants need to make their customer experience and their business thrive.
For new customers to start using SumUp’s products, it is essential that we validate these customers and their business, known as “know your customer” (KYC) and “know your business” (KYB). The Onboarding team is responsible for collecting all the data that is needed for that in the smoothest and easiest possible way during the onboarding of new customers. Onboarding is crucial for the growth and success of SumUp and its merchants. It is a complex challenge as requirements differ by country and we orchestrate multiple own and third party services to obtain this information in the most reliable and automated way possible.
We are looking for a humble servant Engineering Manager to lead this team based in Berlin and Sofia.
Are you an experienced Engineering Manager with a people-positive mindset and a passion for building scalable and highly available systems and user journeys that customers love?
If so, come and join our team working on services that determine the onboarding experience of every new SumUp customer across the globe!

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Create an environment for your cross-functional team of backend and web frontend engineers to excel.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to shape your team’s strategy and provide a long-term vision and guidance.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of that vision and help define, plan, and drive large-scale projects with stakeholders across the organisation from start to finish.
  • Help the team to reduce complexity and technical debt of the systems.
  • Support the growth of your team members by providing continuous feedback, discussing development goals and helping with career development plans.
  • Raise your team’s engineering and operational excellence.

YOU’LL BE GREAT FOR THIS ROLE IF:

  • You have experience building and operating scalable and highly available systems with lots of integrations.
  • You are renowned for great and inclusive people management, mentoring, and professional development on eye-level.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and manage ambiguity confidently.
  • You have led a distributed team, creating a healthy and collaborative environment.
  • You are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to experiment and improve ways of working, including hiring great talent.
  • It is a plus if you have experience in the area of Finance and/or KYC/KYB in particular.
