Boeing’s Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Missile and Weapons Systems (MWS) is seeking Engineering Managers in the area of Radiation Lab Nuclear Hardness Testing to support the Hill Air Force Base (HAFB) Little Mountain Test Facility (LMTF) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Program out of Ogden, UT. The Radiation Lab Nuclear Hardness Testing Engineering Manager will be accountable for a team of ~15 Engineering and Technicians performing nuclear hardness testing activities in a unique Radiation Lab environment.
The primary focus of these roles will be to conduct testing on parts, sub-systems, and systems to verify hardness and survivability for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) portfolio and multiple other Department of Defense (DoD)/ Department of Energy (DoE) Programs. LMTF is considered a Center of Excellence and Boeing maintains the expertise, knowledge, and skills to plan, execute and report the status of nuclear hardness related programs and hardware. This position leads employees from multiple skill areas to execute engineering and program scope for LMTF’s Lab Operations & Maintenance (O&M), ICBM Test Programs, Various other DoD/DoE Test Programs World-Wide, and other activities required to maintain industry leading test equipment and executions of LMTF’s Radiation Labs.
Boeing is required to maintain state of the art capabilities and maintain 100% lab availability. This position provides oversight and approval of nuclear hardness test conduct, test planning, test execution, and test reporting. Other responsibilities include Radiation hardness part test programs with developing test fixtures, software, and data acquisition as well as conducting testing through to completion.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ years of experience with Nuclear Hardness Testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Nuclear hardness and survivability experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical design practices.
  • Experience operating radiation producing equipment.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams focused on complex simulator systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiation simulation technology, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively coordinate with diverse teams.
  • Experience in project management and successful delivery of data related projects.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technological landscapes and integrate new advancements.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and upholding industry standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers specializing in nuclear hardness testing.
  • Develop and implement test plans to ensure compliance with nuclear hardness requirements.
  • Oversee the design and execution of tests to evaluate the resistance of electronic systems to nuclear environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate nuclear hardness considerations into product development.
  • Stay abreast of industry standards and advancements in nuclear hardness testing methodologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members on testing procedures and equipment.
  • Coordinate with external laboratories and agencies for third-party testing and validation.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of test results are accurate and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and timelines for nuclear hardness testing projects.
  • Foster a culture of safety and compliance within the team.
    This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. All candidates must also comply with safety and regulatory requirements associated with radiation simulation technology and radioactive material permits.
    This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
